Then She Fell
“This show occupies a dreamscape where the judgments and classifications of the waking mind are inoperative, and where the single self keeps splitting and blurring.”
–The New York Times
Drawing upon the life and works of Lewis Carroll, a story about dualities emerged, a tug-of-war between desire and duty, rules and freedom, order and chaos, and love and loss.
These dichotomies revealed themselves along Then She Fell’s intimate journey, where just fifteen audience members navigated the corridors and rooms of a three-story building in Brooklyn that came to be known as the Kingsland Ward.
Lewis Carroll played alongside the characters from his most famous books, and together they inhabited a labyrinthine hospital ward under the care of its staff.
Then She Fell enjoyed a successful sold-out run for seven years in its Brooklyn home, playing 4,444 performances before closing on March 12, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
